A girl and a worm

My niece is not your typical girl. She doesn't care about the perfect clothes, pretty hair or anything like that. She's perfectly happy being herself and that's an often stubborn self. I have tried on endless occasions to get her to pose for me for photos. No can do. She runs from the camera or buries her face in her hands so I can't see her. I don't get it. Well, I do. It's that whole "I'm not going to do what you want me to just because you want me to do it" attitude she's had all of her life. Trouble ahead from my sis and bil. *yikes* One of these days, she's going to question our entire family about why there are no photos of her when she was younger - why are there photos of all the boys in the family, but none of her. Well, I have some proof. I'll show her this. This is what she does when you pull the camera out and point it in her direction. She hides and buries her face. *rolleyes*

So, I've decided if I want photos of her, I have to just get them when she's not looking - sort of photo-journalist style. I took my camera with me to the pond where they were fishing and got these. Oh sure, they don't show her face or beautiful smile. They don't show how much she looks like my mother, her Patpat. But they do show her tomboy side - the side of her that can hang tough with all three of her BOY cousins. This girl "ain't afraid of no worms" and doesn't have to depend on anyone else to bait her hook. She's hanging with the best of them. ;)

And when it's all said and done, when she is tired of you following her around with the camera and she's tired of hearing, "Please just look at me and smile. I need proof we loved you too when you were younger. Please." She may actually look at you and do just that. But you'd better be quick because the smile and eye contact won't last too long. lol

Friends and Family

When we went out of town recently, we went south to visit family. The K family is the same as family though we aren't related. Devon and L became friends in playgroup when they were less than two years old. Bets and I developed our friendship during that time too. I'm not sure who liked who better, the boys or us girls. Bets and I are so much alike and we get each other. R and Reed came along and they just melded into the fit, so it's been good for us all. And the guys, T and dh, well, whether they like each other or not (and thankfully they do) they are bound by my and Bets' friendship. Everytime we're together, it's like we are picking up where we last left off and running with it. We have the BEST time visiting with them.

So, during our visit with them at the beginning of the month, I got a chance to shoot them (with my favorite weapon, my camera).

I'll have to share some more of the photos when I've had a chance to go through and tweek them a bit.

For now, I think this one is cool. It's my family of friends. :)

Three bucks worth of entertainment

The boys and I got up yesterday morning and went in search of treasures at yard sales around town. I didn't find a whole lot, but a few things did come home with us. A one dollar watering set up for the dogs sure beats the twelve dollar ones I've been looking at but have been avoiding buying. lol

I like the yard sales around this town because you just never know what you're going to find. Some of them are just plain JUNK. But with this being a heritage town and a hub for antiques and such, sometimes you get lucky and find a real treasure. Yesterday wasn't the day for that. But, at the last place we stopped, I found STILTS for the boys. They were in the car because they were basically burnt out by then. So, I coaxed them out of the car to try these. For three bucks, they were worth bringing home. Now for them to learn stilt mastery and not break a leg.

The pix aren't that great, but they do capture the moment. Jill, you're so right, I need a fisheye. *sigh*

W is for Winners!

When we were in Tennessee visiting my friend Betsy and her family, we took the boys bowling. Sportsmanship was out of the game soon after the first game set. We were just having too much fun. I most likely started the L on the forehead thing when Betsy missed a single pin still standing. Did I mention we were playing WITH BUMPERS because of the kids? lol Betsy and I were still bad even with the bumpers. We had a blast though. We finally decided that the L on the forehead wasn't the greatest example of good conduct or maturity for the children, so we made Ws with the Ls and the dislexic (Nita, I always think of you!) Ls. W is for winner!

The next night when we were taking some pics, her dh took the camera and snapped a few of Bets and me. He told us to act goofy and we immediately became Winners. Very cheesy winners. LOL

Love ya, Bets! Miss you guys!

Grass Carp

Do you know what that is? I didn't until recently. Oh, sure, I knew there were certain types of fish that eat algae or weeds and vegetation off the bottom of lakes. Or at least, I knew you could buy small ones for your fish tank. I don't normally think about such things. So, I find it rather ironic that Grass Carp have made their way into my life twice in the past two weeks. The first time was when I got to see one face to fin, I mean face to face. Pop and the boys were fishing off their dock and Pop snagged this monstrosity by his tail. Can you believe that? Anyway, with the help of the boys, he reeled him in for a closer look. This dude has eaten a lot of weeds in his days at the bottom of the pond! We released him back into the pond so he could get back to work and put some weight on his bones he was so close to being a skeleton fish. ;)

And then, last night, in a conversation with a homeowner who lives in the area where we're planning to build our dream home, Grass Carp made their way into the conversation. I was so delighted to know exactly what the man was talking about when he was updating me on the condition of the lakes on the property and telling me that he'd added Grass Carp to the lakes to help keep down vegetation growth. Surely he was impressed with my vast knowledge of these monster fish. lol

Now, if Grass Carp come into my life for a third time anytime soon, I'll report back because that will just be too weird. ;)

Another one bites the dust

I have been accused more than once of "having a song for every occasion". I never see that as a bad thing, but apparently my sister does. Of course, seeing that she sees it as a problem only adds fuel to my fire and makes me want to do it more and more around her or on the phone with her or every chance I get. I'll always be her baby sister and it'll forever be my job to irritate her. Hey, that's just what I do and if you would ask her, she'd admit I do it well. :D

I'm not the only person I know with a song for every occasion. Kristi, my forever friend, is the same way. Get the two of us together and well, it's quite an interesting conversation - one older sister doesn't want to have any part of. LOL

So, when Reed came walking into the house not too long ago with dirt all over his face because he didn't quite execute the bar on the swing set and he literally bit the dust, well, that song came to mind.

The photo is proof - he bit the dust. Poor guy. He recovered, but not after having to spit and swallow a few bits of said dust. LOL

Blueberry Boy

We all had such a good time enjoying the fresh fruits and veggies at my folks' house. Reed especially liked picking the berries or helping in the garden. He's so different than his brother, but that's a whole other post.

On the fourth, we were all preparing for the picnic when he came in and asked my mom for a bowl and stated that he was going to pick blueberries. I meant to get out there much quicker with my camera, but I had just gotten out of the shower and was in a rush to get ready as the inlaws were due to arrive soon. Anyway, I only got one shot of him in the hot summer sun picking berries, and I think it's hilarious. Can you tell he'd just popped a not so ripe one in his mouth?

Eh, what's up doc?

Reed and I spent some time this evening pulling carrots from the corner of the garden. I kept fighting the urge to go grab my camera to take pics. Then finally HE said it.

"Momma, go get your camera and take a picture of these."

Me: "Ok, wait right here, I'll be back in a sec!" lol

Doesn't looking at these just make you imagine Bugs gnawing on the end of one?
There's always a weirdo in every crowd, right?

I think I have gained five or six pounds in the last two weeks just from eating homemade cobblers. Blackberry cobbler. Blueberry cobbler. Peach cobbler. And of course, fresh fruit cobblers always go better with ice cream. ;) yumilicious!
